Mr. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was born on May 1, 1945 in Haildhar village of Anwara police station to a rich family. The father was a zamindar and a lawyer by profession. The mother was a housewife. At that time no one could have imagined that this boy would one day brighten the name of the country, who would make Bangladesh bright and proud.

Mr. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu is pursuing his secondary education from Patia High School in his district. The year was 1958. He then started his college life at one of the famous Notre Dame College in Dhaka.

Start From A Factory
After returning from study abroad, he joined his older brother’s business. Before the independence of Bangladesh, Mr. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, besides politics, established a factory called Royal Industry on Batali Road on his own. Besides, he also took care of the execution of his elder brother’s factories.
Industry Built By Him
The organizations he had built. Some of the companies he has set up are: Afroza Oil Mill, Bengal Synthetic Products, Javed Steel Mill, Pan Am Vegetation, Asif Steel Mill and Asif Synthetic.
Bank’s Founder
Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, the founder of the bank, played a very important role in pioneering the establishment of the private banking sector in Bangladesh and created “United Commercial Bank”, which you now call UCB Bank. Akhtaruzzaman Babu was the elected chairman of Haildhar Union Parishad from 1967 to 1975. Even after 1970, Mr. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was the Chairman of Haildhar Union Parishad and Chairman of Thana Parishad. In 1971, “Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu” was elected a member of the provincial council from West Patia and Anwara in the general election and performed his duties quite efficiently.
Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, a brilliant and compassionate man from Chittagong, extended a helping hand in the brutal situation of the 1971 war. The organizer of the great liberation war of 1971 was Alhaj Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu. On the eve of 1971, when the non-cooperation movement was going on, Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury was conducting the activities of the struggle committee.
Mr. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was one of the best reformers of the 1972 constitution. Mr. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was elected as Member of Provincial Council (MPA) in 1970.
